A culture of passion

Our Head Baristas were trained by former U.S. Barista Champion Phuong Tran. They attend and volunteer at industry events and are members of the Barista Guild of America. Every barista from our 4 locations receives specific coffee and hands-on espresso training. We believe that the barista has a very important role in the specialty coffee value chain. They are responsible for serving our coffee with the same diligence for quality that our roasters and the farmers put into the product. They also add to the customer’s experience in their delivery style and information they share about the coffee.

Our baristas bring a passion to their job that you don’t find everywhere. A passion for coffee, for espresso, for people, for community, for conversation, for knowledge and a passion for the ethics that make our co-operative different.

Our baristas serve a special espresso blend called Gondwana that is only available in our coffeehouses. Gondwana was a former super-continent that made up most of today’s southern-hemisphere landmasses where our coffees are grown, as well as some small parts of the northern-hemisphere, including Nova Scotia. This espresso changes seasonally and combines the best attributes of these now separated lands, but recognizes our connection to these wonderful places.
